Finding rifles for everyone was trickier even for milliways. She couldn't smuggle them from the armory without being noticed, but if she was going to have warriors aid them in their fight, she owed it to them to atleast get them familiar with modern weapons. In the end, she actually signed an agreement with Bar: she would be permitted weapons, but only if they would be used outside, and only with blank rounds.
That was how she and the other found themselves outside, each person with their own rifle and lined up in front of targets. Emergency or not, she had no intentions of anyone shooting themselves or someone else in the foot over this: soon as they were instructed on how to load and reload their rifles, it was on to safety.
"First rule of handling any firearm," Having given them all ear plugs to muffle the sounds of rifle fire, Sonya spoke loud to be understood. "Always assume your rifle or gun is loaded, even when not. Don't ever point the muzzle at anything you don't want destroyed, and don't put your finger on the trigger unless you're getting ready to shoot something. And finally, always be sure of your target and what's beyond it. You'll be shooting at moving targets, miss the target or hit a non fatal area, there's the risk of a round passing through and hitting one of us instead of the enemy."
This was why they were having target practice in the first place. Better now than learning on the fly.
Sonya lined herself up with the rest of her 'students'. "Line the butt and stock of the rifle just infront of your dominant shoulder, line the muzzle right at your target, finger on the trigger. On count of three, take a deep breath, and pull the trigger..one, two, three."
ooc; threat as a party thread and feel free to thread with others learning.

Date: 2015-11-25 12:18 am (UTC)As such, it was easy to see his reaction to shooting a rifle for the first time. "Lower your aim just a little. The rifle is faster than a bow and arrow so there's little room for compensation. Keep your foot back for recoil, and breath out when you pull the trigger. Try again."

She needed to get them all used to the motions, to get something close to muscle memory for the rifles. Once they got into combat, it would be all too easy for misfire or fumbling with clips.

Date: 2015-11-30 01:45 am (UTC)Soon enough, his clip is empty. He sets about releasing the spent clip, pulls out a fresh one, and promptly pinches part of his hand when he tries to shove it back in. Cursing, he shakes his hand out before trying again, being careful to keep his palm flat to the clip's bottom.

Date: 2015-11-30 02:42 am (UTC)The cursing doesn't get a visual reaction, but inwardly she does flinch, recalling all too well how often that happened to most when starting out. "Do it again. We're going into combat, best to know how to reload without looking."

Date: 2015-12-09 01:17 am (UTC)"Shoot again, then reload." Boring yes, but she wanted them to know this by muscle memory. If things were ideal, she'd set up an obstacle course, but needs must.
"Then it's on to using the rifle as a melee weapon, in the event we're out of ammunition." Things like that happened: they created bayonets for a reason.

Date: 2015-12-18 05:15 am (UTC)She pulled her own rifle from her shoulder, keeping her hand away from the trigger. "Hold it like this, or with your hands on the barrel and it's effective as a blunted weapon." She pulled a bayonet from its sheath at her belt. "Bayonet attached to the barrel, allows you to slash and stab at the enemy."
All in all, very effective.

Date: 2015-11-25 03:35 am (UTC)She waited until she was done firing the shot, studying her a moment before walking to her side. "Fire again, take a deep breath and let it out when you pull the trigger." She wondered if the squinting was her, or just a factor of shooting for the first time. "Try not to squint this time either. Line the barrel up to the target and your aim should be stronger."
This wasn't archery. The speed of a bullet would leave little if any need for compensation that an arrow in flight would need.

Date: 2015-11-25 04:57 am (UTC)"It goes so fast," she says. She's imagining what effect this would have in the Seven Kingdoms. "Do you know how to make these?"
Some warriors know some smithcraft, though it's rare.

Date: 2015-11-25 02:21 pm (UTC)"Try again." She noticed the woman was getting a little better each time, but she wanted to make certain. The whole point of drilling and target practice was to make sure they all had it.

Date: 2015-11-26 02:12 am (UTC)Earplugs wouldn't block out all sounds, but they would muffle them enough. Considering that some of Outworld's warriors relied on invisibility, their other senses would have to be sharp. "Getting better. Empty the clip, then show me how you'd unload and reload the magazine."
no subject
Date: 2015-11-26 02:55 am (UTC)She follows the instructions, firing until the clip is emptied and then unloading and reloading. She feels clumsy, her hands too large for this strange weapon, but she thinks she's managing.

Date: 2015-11-26 03:32 am (UTC)"Again. If you need to reload in combat, things won't be so quiet or peaceful." If she could work a sword or bow, she could become familiar enough with this weapon.
